The “La Stornara” holiday farm is located in the heart of Magna Graecia Tarentina. A land rich in history and with many places to discover. The estate offers an exclusive holiday in a typical Apulian farmhouse. The rooms, finely restored in accordance with tradition, are characterized by crossed stone vaults and antique terracotta floors.
Outside the farm there is a large garden, a lawn in the shade of the tall trees, a terrace with barbecue, an organic garden and a henhouse. The estate is surrounded by an orangery, an olive grove and a vineyard which contribute to the production of our wines and extra virgin olive oil.
The Stornara is suitable for those who are looking for a private and exclusive holiday in a discreet setting of nature and tranquility.
Absolutely to visit nearby: the Sassi of Matera – a UNESCO heritage site, the park of Pollino, the ravine of Massafra, the archaeological museum of Metaponto and Taranto, the cities of Martina Franca, Grottaglie, Alberobello and Lecce.
The holiday farm “La Stornara” was built in the 1940s as a typical dryer used for tobacco production. During these depressed years, many poor farming families moved to this region to find employment in domestic tobacco manufacturing. On farms like La Stornara, each family lived in a single room and dried the leaves using the large fireplaces still present in the rooms.
Over time, tobacco crops have been replaced by vines, olive groves and orangeries, for which our climate and conditions are ideal. Many structures have been abandoned. Nevertheless, the memory is still alive among the descendants of the peasant workers, to whom we proudly dedicate the rediscovery of this fascinating historical place!
We are neither farmers nor hoteliers. The Stornara was born simply from a passion for nature, the products that the land offers us and for our wish to provide warm hospitality!
Our typical guests share a passion for history and nature… and very often become our friends. Our greatest satisfaction is to observe people’s astonishment on arrival and their nostalgia on departure.
Welcome to Puglia!!
